Genealogy for Beginners

May 12:
6:30 p.m. - 8pm
Hearthstone Historic House Museum : 625 W Prospect Ave [map]

Have you ever wanted to discover an epic historical family story, build your family tree, learn about those who built your 120-year old home, or discover the story of the person in a random Victorian photo you found?  Then this class is for you!

In this 90-minute session at Hearthstone Museum, you'll learn the basics of how to do genealogical research. With over 23 years of experience in genealogy, Megan Normansell has researched almost 5000 individual people.  She will focus on the best resources, tricks and tips, and show you how to build your own family tree, how to use unexpected resources to find historical people, and how to navigate ancestry.com.  She will share some INCREDIBLE stories discovered along the way, and how you can do the same.

This is course is meant to teach you how to do research entirely online, with no DNA test or trips to the courthouse needed.  There is no guarantee you will find that lost ancestor, but you’ll be introduced to the tools necessary to keep you moving closer.  This class is about deceased ancestors, not living or those recently deceased. Some resources recommended may require low cost subscriptions (but many have free trials!).  Please note that this session will not show how access adoption records.

Space is limited to 25 people.

Tickets are $20, and are purchased in advance online.
