Message of HOPE in Downtown Appleton

The holidays are a magical time of year and Downtown Appleton will be filled with holiday cheer and spirit this year with window and light displays up and down College Avenue.  As a new addition this holiday season, Appleton Downtown Inc., Creative Downtown Appleton Inc. and partner, The Boldt Company, will be delivering a message of HOPE to the community.

On Thursday, November 19 at 9 a.m. in Houdini Plaza, Downtown Appleton, a large-scale installation spelling the word HOPE made its debut.  The 5-foot-tall installation will remain in Houdini Plaza through the end of March 2021.  The installation was built by the Boldt team, led by Jeff Nushart who has been with the company for 26 years—19 of those years spent running Boldt’s carpentry shop.  Nushart believes “the HOPE display will cheer some people up this holiday season.”

“We wanted to have the message of HOPE strong in our downtown and in our community,” states Jennifer Stephany, executive director for ADI. “There’s no denying this has been a difficult year and keeping hope top of mind is critical to help everyone power through.  The HOPE installation is meant to remind us that we are a resilient and strong community.”

Alison Fiebig, business development and marketing manager with Boldt, shared, “Boldt has participated in the parade for many years, so when we heard it wasn’t going to take place—like many other events this year—our team felt compelled to build a display of hope for our community. While we will miss gathering in person, you can’t cancel hope!”

With the HOPE installation, holiday window displays, Light Up Appleton educational and cultural signs, light displays, and of course the traditional Avenue of Angels, Downtown Appleton will be a beacon of positivity and holiday spirit to brighten the community this season.  Thanks to our partners Tundraland, AZCO Inc., Renewal By Andersen, The Boldt Company , Kimberly-Clark Cares, City of Appleton, and Johnson Financial Group, the magic of the holidays will be alive in Downtown Appleton.

Stephany shares, “Downtown Appleton has always been a destination for the holidays, and we are determined to make it one this year, as well.  Between window displays, learning about cultural celebrations, holiday lights, and exploring downtown businesses for gifts online or in person, you will feel the holiday cheer in the district.”

Be sure to share your messages of HOPE with us this holiday season. Stop by to see the message in person, snap a picture and tag @Appleton Downtown.
