The Dreamers & Doers Award is presented to the business, group or individual who has significantly enhanced, for years to come, the physical and/or economic landscape of the downtown.
The team at Author's Kitchen + Bar fit the description perfectly! When Author's first opened their restaurant in 2018, they were originally located at 201 N. Appleton St. However, a devastating building fire occurred in March of 2018 which resulted in the loss of the building and business. The team didn't let that crush their dreams and they found a new location downtown (125 E. College Ave.) and re-opened their doors in March of 2020.

They excelled through the COVID-19 pandemic as the community rallied over the exciting news of their reopening. By serving up creative ideas, Author's K + B offers carry out and delivery to the loyal community members!

Specializing in scratch pastas, seafood, and unique/fun appetizers, there is something for everyone on their menu. One of the most popular appetizers is an empanada (half moon shaped savory pastry filled with various fillings - sometimes sweet fillings), which is a common food in Argentina, where one of the owners is from. On Tuesdays, they even host "Empanada Tuesdays" where they offer them 3 for $9 which is a great hit! The flavors change each week and they often sell out!
Josh and Matias are the creative masterminds as the chefs of Author's K+B, but they are also the owners. They originally met working at a different local restaurant, hit it off, and knew that they both had the passion for this business. Their 12-14 hours daily at the restaurant ensures that everything is made right, fresh, and with a lot of heart and passion for each and every customer.

The story of Author's Kitchen + Bar shoes that no matter what is thrown at you, if your passionate about your dream and you put in the hours to make it happen, you can achieve it! They are the author's of their own recipes and kitchen, they have had some great chapters so far that show their perseverance and the support of the community, and we can't wait to see what their next chapters hold!
