A new app developed by the Appleton GIS department will allow park users to report everything from damaged park benches to graffiti to the city for attention.

The app can be accessed through the city website on the GIS department page or by scanning a QR code on signs posted at city parks. Currently the signs are posted at the entrances to the four largest parks in Appleton - Telulah, Memorial, Pierce and Erb.

Appleton has 34 parks covering more than 600 acres in the city. The app is a simple three-step form for users to report damage or issues to the city that staff may not be aware of.

“Our staff does a tremendous attending to the needs of Appleton’s parks,” said Parks, Recreation and Facilities Management Department Grounds Manager Tim McGuire. “However they can’t always see everything and we think this new tool will give the community a sense of ownership of our parks to help keep them looking nice.”

Through the app users can add comments, a picture and location of the issue they are reporting. They can also opt to add an email address to be notified by the city when the issue is corrected.

Signs were posted at the four community parks Friday. The app is now live and available for use. If the testing is successful, signs will eventually be posted in other parks in the city.
