Octoberfest to salute fallen soldier

On Saturday, September 17th, 2011, Sgt. Garrick Louis Eppinger, Jr. of Appleton was killed while serving with the 395th Ordnance Company of the United States Army Reserve in Afghanistan. This Saturday, September 24th is Appleton's Octoberfest. While the community comes together to celebrate, time will be taken out to honor this hometown hero.

Each of the five music stages will be adorned with an American flag. At 11:00 AM sharp a special announcement will be made from each stage to gather the crowd for a moment of silence in honor of Sgt. Eppinger (25 seconds in length, Sgt. Eppinger's age). The moment of silence will be followed by the playing of Lee Greenwood's, "God Bless the USA" ... simultaneously on each stage. Attendees are encouraged to bring American flags with them to add to this patriotic moment.

Please plan to join us for this salute.
