100 Years of Story Time at Appleton Public Library

The Appleton Public Library is celebrating a momentous anniversary this November!
November 2011 marks the 100 year anniversary of story time at the APL.

1945 Storytime Broadcast on WHBY

Story time at APL was initiated with the purpose of cultivating a love and interest
in literature for the younger population. Children were invited to attend the hour
long Saturday event, in which stories ranging from mythology to American history
were read by students from Lawrence University. There was over 300 children at
the first story time in 1911!

To commemorate 100 years of story time, APL is cordially inviting you to attend two special events.

Honoring 100 Years of Story Time will take place Wednesday, October 26 from 7 – 7:45 p.m. This
45 minute program will feature vintage articles and photographs, a brief history of children's literature
throughout the last century and story time.

Celebrating 100 Years of Story Time will take place Thursday, October 27 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. This two hour program will highlight staff and many aspects of story time over the years including puppetry, storytelling, musical movement and more. There will be a brief reception after each performance for children to meet and greet their favorite staff members.

Everyone is welcome to attend, and guess what – there will be refreshments provided at each event. We hope to see you there!
