New Appleton Website to help drive citizen engagement in City planning process
Mayor Hanna is announcing the unveiling of a new website and community workshop sessions designed to foster community input for an upcoming revision to the City’s Comprehensive Plan.
The new website - envisionappleton.org - is an online portal of information about a planned five- year update to the City’s Comprehensive Plan – a long-range planning document that guides all areas of development in the city.
“Public participation in this process is critical,” said Mayor Hanna. “We’ve completed sections of our current Comprehensive Plan that now need updating and it was thanks in part to strong public input that those plans were accomplished. This website is another way we are making it easier for the community to help us with this project.”
In addition to the website, two community workshops have also been set; March 14th at the Scheig Center inside Memorial Park, 1313 Witzke Blvd. and March 16th at the Reid Golf Course Clubhouse at 1100 E. Fremont St. Community members are encouraged to attend these informative in-person sessions to learn more about the current plan and the goals of the pending update.
The Comprehensive Plan update will focus on new goals and objectives for downtown which will help to guide and build on the physical, natural, cultural and social assets of the downtown, including the volunteer efforts that drive downtown's role as the heart of the city. The city is partnering with Appleton Downtown, Inc. (ADI) on that part of the plan.
The other major element of the update will focus on our Parks and Recreation master plan to help guide future park and trail development over the next five years.
