Downtown Appleton business owners support efforts to find cancer cure
Raising funds to fight cancer is the goal behind Downtown Appleton’s annual Giving Hope Campaign, beginning Sunday, May 1 through Saturday, May 7. Participating downtown businesses, retailers, bar owners and restaurants are all collaborating with Appleton Downtown Inc. (ADI) and the American Cancer Society to raise money for research and program funding for cancer patients and their families.
Participating merchants and businesses will donate a portion of their sales during the week to ADI’s Giving Hope Campaign, which will conclude with a special Sidewalk Celebration on Saturday, May 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. As part of this fundraising event, retailers will bring their merchandise outdoors, weather permitting, with special pricing just for this event.
“It’s really heartening to see downtown businesses and retailers embrace this campaign, because we’ve all been touched by cancer in some way,” said Anne Wiegman, marketing director for ADI. “For some of us this is a way to celebrate, while for others it is a way to remember a loved one who has passed. Ultimately, we are all working toward the goal of finding a cure for cancer. Both the business owners and the local community are supportive of our annual Giving Hope Campaign and the very real need to find a cure. This kind of support is what makes this area such a great place to live and do business.”
Participating businesses will display Giving Hope window signs and cancer ribbons so they may be easily identifiable to shoppers and patrons. Each business owner has agreed to give a percentage of their sales or a donation to the American Cancer Society as part of this initiative.
