School is officially out for summer – which means you are now trying to fill your time with fun activities to keep the kids busy! Luckily for you, Downtown Appleton is full of great events geared towards family-fun to spark creative energy.

Starting this Friday, June 16, head out to Houdini Plaza for Creative Kids! Appleton Downtown is partnering with The Building for Kids to bring you fun, family-friendly projects to enjoy from 3-5 pm. This new event will run the third Friday in June, July, and August with each month having a different theme. No cost and no pre-registration - just swing by on those Fridays for interactive creativity.

This Friday, June 16 will feature activities all about Hidden Textures. Enjoy Textile Printing with The Trout Museum of Art, Recycled Photo Frames with the Appleton YMCA, and Hammered Flower Prints with The Building for Kids. Along with those fun take home projects, place your artistic hand in the Community Canvas and be part of a community masterpiece.

After Creative Kids, be sure to stay downtown and enjoy Art on the Town from 5-8 pm. Visit downtown businesses and their artist-in- residence; enjoy talking to artists about their work, tasting cuisine art, and listening to diverse musical styles. Hopefully, you’ll even find yourself taking home artistic works you just cannot live without!

This month during Art on the Town enjoy a community art project by artist, Amie Kesler, and Creative Downtown Appleton Inc. Stop by the Creative Parklet (outdoor space next to Copper Rock Coffee) between 5-8 pm and discover what you are capable of when you have no limitations. You will be given a piece of fabric to write down a goal you wish to accomplish. From there you will tie the fabric to the fence, making Friday the day you won’t let anything hold you back from reaching your goal.

Friday is bound to be a day filled with creativity for people of all ages. Join us in Downtown Appleton to experience the excitement art creates for the community!
