Downtown Appleton continues to welcome visitors to enjoy an old-fashioned Christmas in a more relaxed shopping environment with multiple entertainment options. Appleton Downtown Inc. (ADI) and the Downtown businesses have already provided some memorable moments this holiday season, and they are proud to offer one more.
Now in its fourth year, the annual Holiday Fun Fest is becoming a seasonal tradition for many families. All three floors of City Center will be transformed into a winter wonderland on Saturday, December 16 from 9:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. With the special Holiday Fun Fest booths and activities added to the Farm Market, there will be something for all ages to enjoy, along with something for everyone on your gift list.
Kids get a helping hand with holiday shopping again this year thanks to the sponsorship of US Bank and Newmark Grubb Pfefferle. The popular One Stop Elf Shop will be open on the first floor next to Items of Interest, providing a place for kids to shop with the help of an elf for gifts priced at $10 or less for everyone on their list.
Visits and photos with Santa are also on tap through a partnership between ADI and Fox Communities Credit Union. Santa will be available on the second floor of City Center from 10:30 am-1: 30 pm. Children will also receive a special goody bag (while supplies last). Other activities that will be available include: costumed characters, including Kirby The Kangaroo, decked out in his holiday gear; cookie decorating with Mrs. Claus; holiday story-time; decorating corrugated gingerbread cutouts; playing holiday games and more.
The remainder of the second floor, as well as the third floor, will be filled with booths featuring handcrafted holiday gift items, including some Kid Vendors. Many artists who haven’t been able to participate as vendors at Downtown events in the past will be joining in the fun this year.
The weekly Downtown Appleton Farm Market will also be going on from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the first floor, with fifty vendors offering a variety of seasonal produce, meats, eggs, dairy, baked goods, packaged mixes, and handcrafted products including seasonal décor and more. Djuanna Hugdahl, Farm Market Director stated; “With the wide variety of products available, I’m confident you will find everything for your holiday entertaining needs.”
When attendees have had their fill of indoor fun, they are encouraged to visit Washington Square behind City Center where live animals will be available for viewing. Patrons can enjoy a horse-drawn wagon ride for some holiday sight-seeing.
For anyone who is hungry after all that activity or still looking to complete their gift list, the restaurants and stores will be open and ready to help. “Downtown Appleton remains One Great Place for the Holidays,” explained Anne Wiegman, Marketing Director for Appleton Downtown Inc. “The Holiday Fun Fest provides more of the old-fashioned activities we remember from our childhood. That, coupled with the customer service provided by the small businesses Downtown, make it a welcoming destination for holiday fun.”
