There is something about fresh food that just makes it taste better.
The Downtown Appleton Farm Market offers a year-round opportunity to talk with the farmer and learn more about your food. If you want to know how it is grown, just ask. If you want to know the best way to prepare it, just ask. If you wonder how long it stays fresh, just ask. Trust me the extra knowledge also makes it taste better!
If you talk to Appleton locals, almost everyone is aware of the wonderful Farm Market outside on College Avenue on Saturday mornings from June through October, but not everyone realizes that the farm fresh abundance continues through the winter and spring inside City Center Plaza at 10 College Avenue. Or they think when the Farm Market moves indoors it is just a craft market. However, join us on an upcoming Saturday and you’ll see that isn’t the case. You’ll recognize many of your favorite vendors from summer and you’re likely to discover a few new favorites who only vend indoors.
To give you an idea of the variety of products available each Saturday inside City Center, check this list from a recent Saturday: vegetables like potatoes, brussel sprouts, mushrooms, onions, spinach, lettuce, carrots, eggs, meat, cheese curds, string cheese, goat cheese, salsa. soup and dip mixes, pottery, bakery, milled flours, fermented foods, honey and honeycomb, humus, cheesecake, and sweet treats like hand-dipped chocolates, plus crafts like hand-sewn doll clothes, and jewelry.
A kids coloring area, free little library, and music are also available each week. On the third Saturday of the month, we offer Kids Market as a special feature with up to a dozen young entrepreneurs selling their creations from home-made slime to cards to jewelry and more. You’ll find a community resource table right outside Tropical Smoothie and the helpful market staff there to answer questions and direct you to find what you came for. Community-minded sponsors who are happy to share information with those who are interested in health insurance, windows and more are also present.
So do yourself a favor and make the Saturday Farm Market a part of your weekly schedule. You’ll thank yourself repeatedly later in the week as you enjoy the bounty of your trip!
