Chalk About Fun!
This Friday, July 20th is a day filled with all things chalk on the sidewalks of Downtown Appleton.
Starting early in the morning at 9am, you will witness many chalk artists of all ages begin to sketch their masterpiece on College Avenue. Throughout the day, their pieces will come to life as the sidewalks are transformed with vibrant color! Swing downtown during the day to see the artists hard at work, but then join us for Art on the Town from 5-8pm to see their finished pieces. The pure talent displayed through the art of chalk will blow you away.
The chalk artists will have their masterpieces judged by an esteemed panel starting at 6pm that night for their chance to win the grand prize of $500 this year. However, you can vote for your favorite the following week on Appleton Downtown’s Facebook page to help select the People’s Choice Winner!
While you make your plans to stroll the Ave to view the chalk masterpieces, make plans for the young people in your life to experience the love of chalk during Creative Kids! Creative Kids, an event partnered with The Building For Kids Children’s Museum, will run from 3:30-6pm in Houdini Plaza with free, family-friendly art activities all centered around the medium of chalk. They will get the chance to not only chalk on the sidewalks in Houdini Plaza, but to stop by various art stations to create additional make and take art projects, move and groove with fun chalk inspired games, and so much more!
So, feed your childhood love of chalk that never truly disappeared with a night in Downtown Appleton bursting with the excitement of the arts!
