What is the name of your business and who is the owner(s)?
Fox Valley Symphony Orchestra, and we are owned by our fabulous community!
What service(s) and/or product(s) do you offer?
We are fortunate enough to perform our main season concerts at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center, and have both classical and pops concerts throughout the year. We love our special family and education concerts also, and love getting to perform throughout the community in venues like the Library, senior centers, and even the location of our new office, City Center Plaza!
What inspired you to start your business?
The symphony started in 1966 with the hard work of local musicians, teachers, and fans of classical music. We just celebrated our 50th anniversary and can’t wait for another 50.
What are 3 words that describe your business?
Inspirational, soothing, uplifting
If your business had a theme song, what would it be?
Ode to Joy (Beethoven Sympyhony No. 9 final movement), because we love performing for out community. The excitement we feel is overwhelming.
What's the best piece of advice you've ever been given?
Stay true to the mission of the organization and always give the community opportunities to hear us inside and outside the concert hall. This was my introduction to the symphony from our former Music Director, Brian Groner, who just retired last year. We will always use this advice!
What do you love most about being in Downtown Appleton?
EVERYTHING! This is such a vibrant community of businesses, artists, and non profits. We can collaborate, share, and grow together and there is always support from our neighbors and peers.
If you were a super-hero, what powers would you have?
We would have to power to add soundtrack music to every moment of your life, instantly.
What 3 items would you take with you on a deserted island?
Our instruments, our sheet music, and our audience. Sorry, folks! 😊
If you could bring back any fashion trend, what would it be?
Oh, definitely the full powdered wigs. I tried to get all our musicians to wear those, but it just didn’t work out. I’m hoping to convince everyone to sport Beethoven hair instead. Fingers crossed!
